PM Lee and Najib Razak taking a selfie together

From ‘PM Lee takes selfie with Najib at Commonwealth leaders’ meeting in Sri Lanka’, 15 Nov 2013, ST

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong took a “selfie” with his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak at the start of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on Friday in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

He posted it on Twitter, with the message “Backstage with @NajibRazak, waiting to join our Commonwealth colleagues for the Opening Ceremony.”

When our PM started out on Facebook, many thought he was ‘cute’. The shot with Najib takes the cake in ‘cuteness’ factor, like two uncle ‘noobs’ discovering an amazing new toy, a culmination of years of diplomacy, friendship and eventually a blossoming bromance for the ages. Baey Yam Keng needs to find a selfie partner in crime RIGHT NOW, because PM Lee is giving the selfie flavour of the month a run for the money.

Here’s a look back at how the two leaders started out, the story of a journey between two sovereign nations with a shared history told in images and cheesy song lyrics that wouldn’t look out of place in a wedding montage.

‘We started over coffee..’

‘We started out as friends…’

‘This time it’s different…’

‘It’s all because of you..’

‘It’s better than it’s ever been..’

‘It’s all you had to say..’

And, finally, through all the ups and downs, we have a celebrity politician couple in the making. Frodo and Sam, eat your heart out, hobbits!

“This is it, ooooh..I finally found someone…’

But let’s draw the line here, before Benetton starts cashing in on this smokin’ hot relationship.

Now, I can’t help wondering what their predecessors LKY and Mahathir would do if those two had Twitter, Instagram, or camera phones. Something like this, perhaps?

Singasia FTW!!
